A Bit About Me
I work hard in the office and at times, on the tools at my ‘lead roofing and casting’ business, we have worked on many of the UK’s prestigious buildings, including the Royal family’s. I enjoy a drink at weekends like any other ‘hard-core’ moped rider, weight training and keeping fit as well as enjoying spending time with my lovely wife and family.
My other modes of transport are a ‘Harley Fat Boy’, but I’m now going ‘Brit’, and got myself an old Bonnevelle... oil leaks and all. Although I enjoy driving my Porsche I still love the slow chilled speed of a moped... riding out with my buddies. I also have two dogs and a cat.
Mark’s Steed
Puch VS50
Cubic Capacity: 50cc
Special Features: Absolutely None
Interesting Fact:
Yes it’s ugly, has no redeeming features but hey, it made it from Scotland to Norfolk last year without any breakdowns!
Childhood Adventures
Me and a few of my old buddies from ‘Swaffham Hammonds High School’ decided to go camping at the renowned ‘Haunted Rectory’ of Long Melford. But unfortunately when we got there we discovered that the ghost had apparently burnt down the Rectory... must’ve known we were going to cast him out! That was when I first rode a moped... it was my old friend Martin George’s Puch VS50 Field Bike.

About
My day job involves the design of highly complex super-cars, yet I still retain the love of much older, more simple engineering. My favourite car ever is the ‘Phantom Corsair’ of 1938, but as only one was ever made, for now I aspire to a Maserati Ghilbi. I have many projects on hold, including a Ferguson tractor, Morris Pick-up, a couple of 50’s jukeboxes as well as a 1927 Steck Pianola.
Slick’s Steed
1966 Motobecane - Ultramatic
Cubic Capacity: 50cc
Special Features: Grand Tourismo Specification.
Facts
One of these was ridden by a husband and wife from London to Australia in 1962.
It has infinitely variable gearing and 2.8hp, twice the power of the NSU Quickly, that I rode last year down from John ‘O’ Groats.
Moped teenage adventures
I used to ride mopeds in the woods when young, then when camping at California Cliffs in Norfolk aged 13, I found a burnt out Cyclemaster which I later got running (still have it!), this really kicked me off with vehicles and the rest is history. At 16 I had a Garelli Tiger Cross, a sports moped, which I once fitted with drop bars and took the back roads to Snetterton. Fell off in the car park due to the reduced steering lock!
As the poster says... this model was ridden from London to Sydney way back in 1962. Although ‘Slick’s’ is almost 40 years older than the bike used on that trip... he’s fully confident it’ll make it from Land’s End to Wymondham in one piece.

A Bit About Me
Since my youth I’ve always loved motorcycles. Been to the Isles of Mann three times, twice to the South of France as well as loads of weekends away camping at bike meets. Back then, if any of my girl friends didn’t like bikes... we generally only lasted about two weeks. Sooo... glad you like bikes Tina!
I met Tina my wife while working at the Royal Norfolk Show 28 years ago. We were married at Wymondham Abby in October 1987.
Ian’s Steed
1974 Puch MV50
Cubic Capacity: 50cc
Special Features: Ejector Seat .
Facts
Bought it off eBay for £355.
I’m a nasty eBay sniper... ‘sniped’ it with only fifteen seconds to go... though I bid the same amount as another sniper, I won it as I’d bid nine seconds earlier than he did. I am... a champion eBay sniper!!
When I went to pick-up the bike, I discovered that it had been standing for the last 25 years, the owner had - had it for the last eight but hadn’t bothered to put it on the road. With 6’600 miles on the clock... all I’ve got to do is sort out a fuel starvation issue, put it through an MOT and I’m good to go!

At the age of 12, I asked my parents if I could have a pony and they said yes (but not really) by the age of 13 I had saved enough money, so I skipped school and shot off to the market to buy a Donkey, ponies where way too much money. Took it home and put it in the garden then went back to School, it was only on my return home that I found out that ‘Yes’ really meant no, we had a tiny garden in London!

Stuart’s Steed
Honda CL50 (Cruncie)
Cubic Capacity: 50cc
Special Features: Nitro Injectors.
Interesting Fact:
This moped was bought in a complete mess... including loads of missing parts, with only six weeks to go before we hit the road (last year), I had to rush a complete overhaul. Since then... she’s never let me down.
Childhood Adventures
I had a few mopeds in my youth, the most memorable was my Honda SS50 which was great fun to ride... yet constantly broke down. My first crash took place in Norwich, while my attentions was drawn away by a old rusty lamppost... that just happened to have a scantly clad beauty leaning against it.

A Bit About Me
I have owned and ridden mopeds since I was 14 and my first road bike was a Garelli Tiger, I now ride a CBR 600 when not using a moped. I really enjoy the pace of riding at 20-30 mph and taking part on the ride last year was good fun.
I am based in Norfolk but get to travel extensively around the world with my job. Although this is interesting, I always like returning home to South Norfolk.
Richard’s Steed
Garelli Tiger
Cubic Capacity: 50cc
Special Features: Once had a reverse gear.
Mobile users, You’ll have to manually slide Youtube’s playhead to 5:07 to see the Garelli in reverse gear. Seems the Mobile OS can’t handle the time specific code yet!
Most Interesting Fact:
It’s a Mark 2 Garelli Tiger Cross, famed for being quite quick but unreliable. It’s identical to the first one I bought and rode in 1985 until I changed it for a bigger bike. So far it’s being running well and is pretty much untouched since finishing in 2010. I am hoping for a few less breakdowns this year though, and no reverse running!

A Bit About Dave
Dave is the unsung hero at WWD... if there are any break-downs, engine problems or accidents, Dave is the ‘back-up Team’, in emergencies he can always be found at the nearest roadside cafe drinking tea with his phone turned-off!
Just kidding... if it wasn’t for Dave backing-up the riders I don’t think any of them would have dared to venture much more than a couple of miles from home, who would on those beefed-up push-bikes?
David’s Steed
I haven’t been given any info on the lorry yet, all I know is that it is their mobile hotel and workshop. The fridge is always well stocked with plenty of mouldy cheese and sour milk.

Doug’s Steed
1973 Puch VS50D
Cubic Capacity: 50cc
A bit of info:
As you can see... this is the same model Puch as Markus’ bike. Slick had it rebuilt and until Doug appeared on the scene, it was going to be a spare.
Being same model as Markus’... which currently holds the title for WWD’s ‘Most Ugliest Bike’ it was thought to be a strong contender for the title. However, when you stand both bikes side-by-side... it soon becomes apparent that Mark’s is in a league of it’s own, especially after his recent... disastrous paint job!
Teenage Adventures
A remember an epic trip on my purple ‘fizzy’ to West Runton pavilion; to see Motorhead play with ‘The Heartsease Boys’ from Norwich. It was 1978, I drew the short straw and had to carry a giant chain across my body thus slowing me down to 20 mph, we where frozen solid and my ears where bleeding, , I’m not sure if that was the cold or or the after effects of listening to Motorhead!
